What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a lab-grown gemstone, first discovered in a meteor crater in 1893. Because it’s created in a lab, it’s ethically made with no mining. It’s second only to diamond in hardness, and ours is graded D colour and VVS clarity for an icy, diamond-like sparkle at a fraction of the price.

Does my moissanite come with a certificate?

Yes. Every House of Carats moissanite piece comes with a certificate of authenticity, confirming your stones are genuine lab-grown moissanite. Our moissanite is graded D colour and VVS clarity, the highest colour grade and near-flawless clarity, so it delivers the same icy brilliance as a top-tier diamond.

Will my moissanite earrings test as diamond?

Yes, in most cases. Moissanite conducts heat in a similar way to diamond, so it will pass a standard diamond tester, the kind most jewellers use. Only a specialist moissanite tester can tell the difference. To the eye, it’s indistinguishable, and moissanite is actually more brilliant, with more fire and sparkle than diamond.

What stones do you use?

Lab-grown moissanite and lab-grown diamond simulants like crushed ice cubic zirconia. Our moissanite is D colour, VVS clarity, the top grades on both scales. Each product page says which stone the piece uses.

What metal do you use?

Most of our pieces are sterling silver, we use Rhodium and 18k Gold Plating on our jewellery. For more details, see individual item's product description.

Is your jewellery hypoallergenic?

Yes. Nothing we make contains nickel or cadmium, so it is suitable for sensitive skin.

Will it tarnish or turn my skin green?

No green marks: that comes from the cheap base metals we don’t use. Sterling silver can dull over time if it is left in water or sprayed with perfume, and a quick polish brings it back. Stainless steel pieces can be worn in water.

How long will my order take?

We send orders within 1 to 2 working days. UK delivery then takes 1 to 3 working days, or 1 to 2 with express if you order before 1pm. International delivery takes 3 to 10 working days. Every order is sent tracked and insured. During peak sales periods such as Black Friday, please allow an extra 1 to 2 working days for us to send your order.

What does “made to order” mean?

It means your piece is made for you after you order, not picked from a shelf. We source the stones and set them for your piece, which is how we keep our moissanite at D colour and VVS clarity, the top grades on both scales. It takes 2 to 4 weeks, and most arrive sooner.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Of course. You have 30 days from the day your order arrives, as long as the piece is unworn, with its tags on, in its original packaging. The only exceptions are earrings (for hygiene), made-to-order pieces and gift cards.

I’m buying a gift and don’t know her size.

Earrings and necklaces are the safe choice, as they need no size at all. For a ring, our adjustable styles fit most hands, or order a ring sizer and find out without giving the game away.
